Virtual Event: Crazy Climate & Rational Decisions: What they mean for California?

Date: May 04, 2023

Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm PT

Join us for a special presentation during our Big Day of Giving celebration featuring Dr. Laurel Larsen, Associate Professor at UC Berkeley in the Departments of Geography and Civil and Environmental Engineering and Delta Lead Scientist for the USGS Delta Stewardship Council.

Dr. Larsen will introduce you to how climate change is impacting the water cycle, and why these changes can be challenging to predict. Learn how scientists document trends in different types of hydrologic extremes across the country, and how this data, together with artificial intelligence can help us develop next-generation hydrologic forecasting models that might be useful as operational tools. Water touches everything. And as the climate warms, the complexities of water management – from conserving endangered fish species to protecting the state’s water supply from salinity to promoting recreational use – intertwine more and more and that means Dr. Larsen’s work is inherently collaborative.
